DJ Khaled once had to sleep in his car

DJ Khaled is among the world’s highest-paid hip-hop producers, in fact, last year, Forbes estimates he earned $27 million.

The 43-year-old Palestinian-American music mogul, whose real name is Khaled Mohamed Khaled, also knows what it’s like to be on the other side of the wealth spectrum. His parents, Palestinian immigrants, arrived in New Orleans in their 20s with just $20 to their name.

The DJ-producer, who’s single ‘Just Us’ – featuring SZA – charted at no.11 this past weekend (24 Aug 2019) on the Coca-Cola Top40SA with Carl Wastie, first started deejaying at the young age of 13.

When he was 16, his parents ran into financial trouble and lost everything, forcing them to move to New Orleans to live with family, whilst Khaled stayed in Florida to try to launch his music career.

During this time, DJ Khaled had to sleep in his car and got evicted numerous times.

That’s all history now for the mogul who has put in the work and reaped the results. His net worth this year (2019) is estimated to be over $35 million.
